Yes, do write them a letter!

Sometimes writing feels forced, whereas other times it seems to jump off of the keyboard violently. This one will be the latter.

An attitude among my fellow Americans is that there is no need to write your congressional representatives with things you need. After all, politicians are all nothing but uncaring, elitists; they only want your vote and nothing more. Nothing could be further from the truth.

My wife and I were owed some back tax refunds going back to 2018. We frequently tried to call the IRS (emphasis on the word tried) and checked the “where’s my refund” website, all to no avail. We even contacted our tax preparer only to be told that the money was being held by the IRS. Things were pretty grim.

We waited patiently for the IRS to figure things out, hopeful that this would get straightened out if we just waited a little longer. I do believe firmly that patience is a great thing and a needed virtue, but that is not meant to be taken literally. There is a time to be patient and a time to ask questions.

We wrote our state representatives in order to ask them to look into our taxes. I won’t mention their names as I am not the most politically active person and that would deviate from the point of this entry. Needless to say, someone actually got back to us and promised to take action.

Within a month we received our refunds. We were shocked when we found out that someone in congress would be willing to intervene on our behalf.

Friend, if you have a problem having to do with our government, do write your congressman! Do not wait, e-mail them now. Ten minutes or less of your time is worth the risk if it might lead to an improvement of your situation.

Do it.
